Home styles — pick your landing screen (incl. SPOG)

What it does: View ▸ Home style lets you choose how the Home screen looks. The ORIGINAL dashboard is the default and never changes; the others are alternate presentations of the same tool catalog — picking one changes nothing about the tools, your data, or your license, and your choice is remembered.

  • Original (default) — the network overview: system info, uplink, click-to-run public IP and speed test.
  • Windows — Start Menu — search-first, pinned free tools, recommended, then everything grouped.
  • Linux — GNOME grid — a full-screen icon grid with type-to-search.
  • Tmux panes — terminal panes, one per category, with a status bar.
  • SPOG — single pane of glass — a live dashboard of widgets, by role, that you can rearrange.

Build your own dashboard: SPOG shows tools as widgets on a grid. A LIVE widget is a read-only glance at a tool's current state (the same numbers the tool itself shows — it never runs anything on its own). An INPUT widget has a host box: type a host and Run opens that tool with the host already filled in. A LAUNCHER is a one-click tile that opens the tool. Opening a tool from SPOG is exactly the same as opening it from the sidebar, including Pro licensing.

The four roles (tabs across the top):

  • Daily check — for the person who opens the app at 8am: uplink + public IP, devices up / known, open incidents, last speed test, drift, NTP; launchers for Discovery and Topology.
  • Help desk — first-line "is it the network?": Ping, Traceroute, DNS lookup and Port scanner input widgets, Wi-Fi scan, Saved hosts (Console), incidents, Jobs (the task runbooks — click to pick one); launchers for Path ping, Field Kit and Runbook.
  • Engineer — the one who fixes it: Multi-host run (DIFFERS flags), Topology, L2 neighbors, Capture, Local servers, a Deputy ask box; launchers for Console, Transfer, Config Builder and Lab Testing.
  • Boss — for the lead who reads the board but doesn't drive the tools: a big Network health gauge, a plain-English "Everything OK?" line, open incidents, devices up / known, uplink, Topology, Multi-host DIFFERS, Monitor alarms, the Deputy's last summary with one Ask the Deputy button, last speed test and drift; launchers for Discovery, Runbook and Incidents. No inputs, bigger type, refreshes every 60 seconds (the other boards every 30, and only while SPOG is on screen).

How to customize: click Edit. Each widget gets ◀ ▶ (move earlier / later — the grid reflows so nothing overlaps), a size button that cycles S → M → L (1×1, 2×1, 2×2 cells) and ✕ (remove). With a widget focused, Ctrl+Arrow moves it too. + Add widget opens a searchable picker of every tool as a live, input or launcher widget. Reset to preset brings a role's shipped board back; Save as custom board copies the current board under its own tab.

Export / import: Export… saves the board as a small JSON file (schema spog-layout-v1) and Import… loads one — so a team lead can hand a help-desk layout to the whole team. The file holds LAYOUT ONLY: widget ids, sizes, their order and the board name — never hostnames, credentials or tool results. A widget whose tool this build doesn't have is skipped with a note, and a file that isn't a SPOG layout is refused with the reason.

Where it's saved: home-spog.json in the app's data folder (%APPDATA%\SubnetSlinger as the app sees it; under the Store install Windows keeps it in %LOCALAPPDATA%\Packages\AISMITHPDX.SubnetSlinger_…\LocalCache\Roaming\SubnetSlinger). In demo mode your layout still saves, but every widget shows the sample network — nothing real is read.
