MAC / OUI lookup

What it does: turns a MAC (hardware) address into the company that made the device. The first half of every MAC is an "OUI" — a code assigned to the manufacturer — so a MAC tells you the vendor even when nothing else will. Recent lookups list on the right; flag one (⚑) to keep it on a watchlist.

What you need: a MAC address, in any common format (aa:bb:cc:dd:ee:ff, aabb.ccdd.eeff, etc.).

Safe to run: yes — an offline/lookup operation.

What to expect / reading results: the vendor name hints at what the device is (Apple/Samsung = a phone or laptop, Ubiquiti/Cisco = network gear, a VM vendor = a virtual machine, etc.). One gotcha: a MAC marked "locally administered" is often randomized or virtual — modern phones randomize their MAC for privacy, so it won't map to a real maker.
